What if I don't have the required operations experience?
We require you to find an operating equity partner with successful multi-unit
restaurant or retail experience before we complete a formal application.
Does Steak n Shake offer financing?
Yes, in some cases Steak n Shake will consider purchasing the necessary
land and building and leasing it back to you. However, in most cases you
must have the financial capacity to develop a free-standing restaurant.

How much land is required?
Typically, a standard layout requires one commercial acre (approx. 43,500 sq.
ft.).
How do I begin the process of being considered for an award
of a Steak n Shake franchise?
Complete and submit the online Preliminary Information Form.
How much is the initial franchise fee?
It is currently $40,000 for the first restaurant, $35,000 for the second restaurant and $30,000 for each
subsequent restaurant, although these amounts are subject to change in
the future.
What are the fees?
The current royalty fee is 1% of gross receipts and the service fee is 3% of gross receipts, both due monthly.
What are the advertising/marketing fees?
The advertising/marketing fee is currently 5% of gross receipts, due monthly
to a central fund.
How long is the term of the Franchise Agreement?
20 years.
