Steak ’n Shake in Elk Grove Village, IL Premium Steakburgers, Beef Tallow Fries and Homemade Milkshakes

First the pros, The food here is made really good. I've had a couple of not so great experiences at other steak 'n shakes food wise, but at this location which is the closest to my house it's really good!

Only once did I come at a time when it was busy, so during that time where it was dinner, service was understandably a bit slower. The time frame I usually come though it's not that busy, and the food comes out piping hot. Nice and fresh tasting.

My go-to is the double steak burger, hot dog with mustard relish and onions, along with fries or I'll get a side of chili cheese tots. As I said though, everything I've had from here is very good and I highly recommend it for the food alone!

The staff is very nice and while I've never needed help personally, a few times I've seen old timers having trouble with the kiosks where they need to order, and the staff is more than willing to come out and help. The prices also are fairly good. It equals out to the quality of food that you're getting, my only little nitpick is with the french fries. While they do taste very good, I'm not much of a fan of how small they are. Sure I can just easily grab a bunch of fries at once and stuff them in my mouth, but that seems a bit over excessive. I simply wish the fries were thicker, that would make a world of a difference, but the beef tallow that the fries are fried in makes all the difference in taste standing out.

Finally the reason why I'm giving the atmosphere four stars out of five.. It's really cold in this joint!

They have the AC on full blast most of the time. The thing is I love the cold, definitely prefer it over being hot. Perhaps this is done to keep the milkshakes cold for people that are eating inside, but I would say it's definitely more inconvenient feeling. Like at times I feel like I'm shaking and need to put a sweater on.. It's not very ideal. I mean of course I don't have a sweater on me during the summer time, but when I walk inside and after only sitting down for about 5 minutes, the cold creeps up and it's just too much. Sadly makes for an uncomfortable experience, while the food is still very good and worth it for my young self! 😁

So yeah I can deal with it for the food alone, but I still wish it was just a little warmer. The AC doesn't need to be on full blast every time. For example, never sit at the tables that are against the wall, because the vents are right there for the air above you. It will freeze you out like crazy!

To summarize, food is fantastic, service is great, but the atmosphere is like living in an igloo.
